Society of Illustrators

The Society of illustrators is a group/community of professional illustrators who's goal is to promote illustration, art and educate people, artists, designers or illustrators on its history and evolving nature through exhibitions. The exhibitions help you find meaning in art and illustrations and teach you how art can tell a story or knowing the story behind art or illustration. My favorite exhibition was probably the hands on drawing with Mrs. Wooley and her presentation simply because not only does she share a experience to mine similar and an interesting career  but she goes in depth in the illustration process and how you need to know what you are drawing, especially when talking about her work with the national geographics Pirate Queens art and cover. Such as when she was drawing the important women during this time she had to know about their background, character and she had  to find the suitable models to illustrate the women. When designing her cover she had stumbled upon mistakes such as using a Western crown which didn't suit the context and theme of the story being Important pirate women around the world. Another reason why I loved this exhibition was due to the fact that I got to freely draw again like I used to during 4th- 8th grade but I stopped due to focusing a lot on my studies. Designing my own character inspired by the iconic 007 James Bond and receiving recognition and some praise by Mrs. Woolley for my slightly more than decent sketch. Drawing tools I used during this exhibition was pencil, paper, characterization guide, sharpie 0.7 mm marker, and a ruler. This exhibition brought back my enthusiasm to draw and illustrate again because of how free I was when just using my imagination and inspiration to create my own character.
